We had fabulous weather for our guided walk with local wildlife expert, Neville Davies on Saturday 1st July. The walk went from a 10am start until our return to the Traveller's Rest at 1.15pm, for a well deserved drink and a natter before dispersing.
Neville was a great guide, showing us orchids, funghi (edible and decidedly inedible varieties) as well as identifying the local birdsong of the Nuthatch, the Chiffchaff and Blackcap.
You can read his full report at his website and catch up on his monthly newsletters (or sign up for them) at http://www.ecologycymru.co.uk/mindfullness-nature-walk-samye-foundation-wales/
Thank you to Neville for leading the walk and thanks to everyone who attended and made the day such a pleasant experience. We hope to organise another event with Neville so if you'd be interested, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to let us know and we'll put you on our register.
Comments from People Who Came Along
"I found the walk very enjoyable and really interesting. It was not too strenuous and we stopped several times to hear interesting facts about the landscape and various species. I would highly recommend this walk and I am looking forward to the next one." Jan
"Just to let you know, Chris (hubby) & myself really enjoyed our walk on Cefn Onn Ridge. We are cardiff born but have never realised how near this route is. How beautiful the ancient woodland is and the wonderful variety of flora & fauna that grows there.
Neville is cheerful and very informative, e.g. on foraging edible plants, identifying the large variety of birds and birdsong and his knowledge of the surrounding area generally. Will definitely returen to experience again." Margaret Hudson
If you'd like to see exactly why I always say I'm pretty bad at photography, you can see the pictures I took on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/SamyeFoundationWales1/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1945226079087415
If you enjoy the pics, please feel free to like, comment and share with appropriate messages!
If you attended the walk and took a picture that you're happy for us to put up on the album, just let us know as we'd love to have more photos of events (taken by people who are better than me with any luck).
The Importance of Booking Earnestly
Just a small point of order while we're on the topic, lots of people turned up, which was lovely but we almost cancelled because hardly anyone had told us. In the end it was a fantastic day but, as with all events and courses, if we don't know people are coming we may be forced to cancel.
We hope to announce the next event fairly soon.
