Grand Opening Day
We are delighted and honoured that Choje Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche, Abbot of Kagyu Samye Ling Monastery, and Director of Samye Foundation Wales, will preside over the Grand Opening of the new building at Cardiff Kagyu Samye Dzong’s Tibetan Buddhist centre on Sunday 24th September.
Plan for the Day
Our programme for the day will start at 14.00, with an introduction by Kagyu Samye Dzong, followed by a forty-five minute talk by Lama Yeshe.
The new centre features a Tibetan tea room, Quiet room, book and gift shop, and one new therapy studio. In addition to the existing shrine room, the new centre will offer a social hub for the local community, Kagyu Samye Dzong members and those interested in Buddhism or Mindfulness.
Tours of the new centre will take place between 15.00 and 16.00, followed by refreshments.
All are welcome to remain at the centre to socialise, view the new building and find out the services and facilities provided by KSD Cardiff and Samye Foundation, until 17.00.
The event is free and open to the public, no ticket is required and all are welcome. We invited a number of public figures, charitable groups, organisations, our volunteers and regulars and the general public.
This is a fabulous opportunity to raise awareness of our centre, the facilities that we have here, and the services that are available to the community.
Please do come along if you are able to do so and bring any family, friends or colleagues who might be interested.
We hope you'll join us all for a wonderful celebration of the hard work that's gone into making Kagyu Samye Dzong (Cardiff) and Samye Foundation Wales into such a success.

The New KSD Building
When the new building opens, Kagyu Samye Dzong (Cardiff) and Samye Foundation Wales will be running the whole site. This is an important step to our long terms goals to build a peaceful and relaxing centre for the whole community. The centre provides Mindfulness training, space for a wide variety of therapy and well-being services, office space for local businesses and studio space for artists.
The new building will greatly expand the total space that we have at the site and thus the services and benefit we can provide to the community.
What's in the new building?
- A Tibetan Tea Room & Kitchen
- Quiet Room for reading and relaxation
- An additional multi-purpose room for therapy, Mindfulness and Buddhist events
- Three flats for visiting teachers and volunteers to use
Because we have moved some of the facilities from our main building (number 250) into the new one (tea room, the shop and the books to borrow), we have also been able to add an additional multi-purpose therapy room there. Additionally this will reduce foot traffic and make the central building, where most therapy is conducted, quieter.
At the same time as refurbishing the new building, the main building has had some redecoration and touching up in places.
