Our Centre in Cardiff Receives the Bee Friendly Award

Bee Friendly Logo colour

We've received the Bee Friendly award from Bee Friendly Awards for our efforts to support our pollinators at the centre that Samye Foundation Wales and KSD Cardiff share.

If you haven't been to the centre recently, there are lots more planters and around the car park and cafe seating area, as well as in the back garden.

The good work continues, thanks to the hard work of our volunteers and groups such as Good Gym who've done a lot of work in our garden as well.

You can find out more about Bee Friendly Wales through their Facebook page.

We would particularly like to thank Terry who not only made the case for this and let us know the award existed, but also did the work to apply for the award.

Bee Friendly Certificate

Dear Lorraine and Terry,

Bee Friendly/Cary Gwenyn – Tibetan Buddhist and Mindfulness Centre Cardiff

Thank you for your application form, which has been assessed by your Bee Friendly Champion.

On behalf of the Action Plan for Pollinators Task Force, I am delighted to tell you your application is successful. I am very pleased to enclose your Bee Friendly certificate and logo. You will be able to use the logo on newsletters etc. and on any promotional materials.

Thank you very much for your support for the Bee Friendly scheme. In addition to its intrinsic value, exposure to nature is vital to our physical and emotional wellbeing and, from your application, it seems you are providing an invaluable resource.

There are a number of organisations in your area who are Bee Friendly accredited, such as Global Gardens. I would encourage the sharing of best practices wherever possible to improve the opportunities for pollinators.

I see from your application that you will be observing the flowers throughout the year. Therefore, I though you may be interested in Flower-Insect Timed Count (‘FIT Counts’). This is simple survey to collects data on the total number of insects that visit a particular flower over a ten-minute period, ideally chosen from our list of 14 target flowers. More information on how to do this survey can be following link: https://www.ceh.ac.uk/our-science/projects/pollinator-monitoring.

Please let us know what the results of your Bee Friendly project are. We are always keen to publicise Bee Friendly activity and it would be great to get photos to promote through our social media networks.

Please remember to publicise and share your achievements by posting any photos and experiences on the Bee Friendly Wales Facebook page and on Twitter using the hashtag #BeeFriendly.

Remember to maintain your Bee Friendly status by submitting an application form next year.

Yours sincerely
