Welcome to Nurturing Therapies. My name is Deirdre Davies and my transition into holistic therapies began some 14 years ago whilst I was working as a Quality Engineer for a large electronics company in my home town in the heart of Ireland.
I had the great pleasure of practising the gentle art of Reiki for many years prior to discovering Reflexology. At the time I was looking for a therapy to help me find some much needed balance as I was going through lots of personal and professional changes in my life. After just 5 sessions I honestly felt like me again. I was sleeping so much better, my overall mood was more positive, my skin became clear & bright and I felt calm and relaxed for the first time in ages. Receiving regular reflexology treatments had ignited something in me, and so I actively sought to learn this therapy for myself. In the summer of 2006 I enrolled at the excellent Inspira Academy of Reflexology in the Vale of Glamorgan, and I was genuinely shocked at how much work was before me. The course duration was 12 months and included an in-depth study of anatomy & physiology, many hours of mastering and understanding this healing art, perfecting the techniques involved, discovering it’s place in both our clinical and therapeutic world, internal and external examinations, plus carrying out and submitting a whopping 100 case studies to boot! At the time, this was the most stringent reflexology course in the UK and I certainly felt it! I was still working full-time in an engineering role and spent most of my free time studying and practicing. Although tough at times, I knew that I was being taught at a very high level and that upon completion of this course my qualification would become my professional benchmark. I left Inspira in 2007 with distinction in hand. I have truly never looked back.
Over the years my passion for all things holistic has really taken flight. I now hold a diploma’s in Holistic Massage and Archangel Therapy. I have a very keen interest in Women’s Health and I am both skilled and experienced in the following fields;
- Reproductive Reflexology (to support fertility, sub-fertility and assisted cycles)
- Maternity Reflexology (to support pre-conceptual, pregnancy and post-partum care)
- Pregnancy Massage (to support Mum-to-Be throughout all stages of her pregnancy)
- Infant Massage Instructor (a fabulous therapy taught to parents to soothe & comfort baby, suitable from birth.)
- Tiny Toes Reflexology (to soothe and support newbies and toddlers)
- Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage (for the treatment of secondary lymphoedema and other inflammatory conditions)
- Spinal Advanced Reflexology (to help identify and correct imbalances along the spinal pathway)
- Hand Reflexology (a wonderful alternative to foot reflexology)
- Holistic Massage (a supportive, relaxing and rebalancing treatment tailored specifically to your needs)
- Reflex-Massage (45 minutes of Reflexology followed by a 45 minute Holistic Massage)
I am fully insured to treat you and have full membership with the Association of Reflexologists, The Association of Reproductive Reflexologists and The Federation of Holistic Therapists. I am also a member of the Complimentary and Natural Health Care Council (CNHC).
Reflexology is a healing technique based on the principle that every single part of our body has a reflex point in the soles of the feet and in the hands. Stimulating these points can help many health problems in a natural way, giving the body the possibility of optimizing its own natural resources to heal itself. Like acupuncture, it is based on releasing blocked-energy pathways. Sensitive, trained hands detect tiny deposits and imbalances in the feet and by working on these deposits the Reflexologist aims to release blockages to restore the free flow of energy to the whole body.
Infant Massage is an ancient tradition of providing nurturing touch as a way of communicating and bonding with baby. Massage enhances communication and deepens feelings of attachment between caregiver and baby, promoting the physical and emotional well-being of babies and young children.Reproductive reflexology can be used as a stand-alone treatment to enhance your natural fertility, alongside conventional treatments such as Clomid and fully medicated cycles of IUI, IVF and ICSI, as well as the procedure involved with using donor eggs. I am specially trained to work alongside medicated cycles using treatment protocol that helps to support the medications efficacy. The Association of Reproductive Reflexologists are a professional body of skilled practitioners with an advanced standard of Reproductive Reflexology training that the general public can rely upon as a kite mark for excellence.
Holistic massage is a supportive, relaxing and rebalancing treatment that not only affects you on a physical level but also encourages your mind to slow down and your breathing to deepen. This type of massage is both soothing and nurturing, and creates a space for wellness on every level.Spinal Reflexology is a powerful form of reflexology based on stimulating the spinal reflexes on the feet. Each individual vertebra will be treated to help identify any nerve roots that are out of balance. A nerve root exits through the vertebrae to reach specific organs and muscles. If a nerve root is imbalanced not only can it affect the functioning of the spine, it can also prevent specific organs and muscles from functioning correctly. This may be the reason why you are experiencing other health issues, and conversely, why other health issues may be causing your back pain.
Maternity Reflexology is the expertise of using a natural therapy to support the natural event of pregnancy and birthing. Pregnancy brings great changes not only in the body but also in the emotions and psyche of the mother.Fluctuating hormones, weight gain and physical discomfort can leave Mum feeling frazzled. Reflexology is deeply relaxing and can help ease discomfort and calm anxieties prior to and during the birthing process. It can also help with some of the more common conditions experienced during pregnancy such as sluggish digestion, fluid retention, sleep disturbance, joint pain (including SPD) and fatigue.
Reflexology Lymphatic Drainage is an award winning reflexology technique that focuses on stimulating the lymphatic reflexes on the feet. The aim is to cause an effect on the lymphatic system in the body so that the symptoms associated with secondary lymphoedema and other inflammatory conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, migraine and sinusitis can be effectively treated.
