I am a systemic psychotherapist registered with UKCP and BACP. In my private practice I work with individuals from 11 upwards, couples and families. I have worked as a school counsellor (11-18), university counsellor and family therapist with PACE, an LGBT+ charity. My background has been in communication as a film maker and university lecturer. I bring that background into my current work which is grounded in the importance of communication and dialogue in relationships within a safe space for exploring whatever difficult issues you need to address. I have special interests in systemically working with gendered identities, childhood abuse and trauma. I teach counselling on the MSc Genetic Counselling at Cardiff, co-ordinate a Counselling diploma in Porthcawl Counselling Service, and I volunteer as a counsellor and supervisor there. I have trained in EMI which is an approach for working with trauma and PTSD. What informs my practice is a concern for respecting and valuing difference and the importance of caring communication in all relationships.
I have been trained in a variety of therapy models including Person centred, Narrative, Solution-focused and mindfulness based cognitive therapy. I use my training to assist clients in accessing their internal resources and unique strengths to respond to and work through difficult or traumatic experiences.
I prefer to practice therapy using a collaborative approach that helps clients establish goals and build on the skills and solutions they have already developed. I also work with my clients to explore new possibilities for their lives and relationships. My goal is always to make you feel heard, respected and safe.
In my family therapy work I believe in working in partnership ‘with’ families and others, not ‘on’ them and to embrace diverse family forms and relationships, beliefs and cultures as well as respecting and encouraging the acceptance of difference.
I have a degree in counselling and an MSc in Systemic Psychotherapy
Fee per 1 hour session is £40 for individuals, £50 for couples, £60 for families and is negotiable depending on circumstances.
