Student Subscription Offer

Subscribe as a Student & Access Mindfulness Courses at a Great Discount

Starting in September 2018 we want to make Mindfulness available to the student body of Cardiff and surrounding areas, as cost effectively as possible.

Our new subscription offer has been well received and we're now ready to launch a version of the same great offer for students. You get all the same benefits but at 50% the level of subscription.

For only £60/year you can access the Mindfulness courses that you need to begin your practice. You can come to as many of the courses as your schedule allows, at no further charge. You can pay up front for a full year, or by a monthly standing order, whichever suits your finances.

How to Become a Student Subscriber to The Mindfulness and Well-being Centre

If you would like to become a Student Subscriber to our Mindfulness and Well-being Centre, you can sign up for a monthly standing order and we will add you to our Student Subscribers register. Alternatively, you can make a single annual payment at the start of the university year.

You will then be entitled to some benefits, depending on your level of subscription. You will receive a Subscribers card which you can present to confirm your entitlement to benefits.

To start the simple process, simply email admin@sfwales.org and confirm that you would like to become a Student Subscriber to the centre. We'll then arrange for you to come in and show us your proof of NUS membership and set up a standing order or one off payment.

Student Subscriber Levels

We have three pre-set levels of Student Subscriber which are named for convenience as follows:

  • Benefactor £10 per month
  • Friend £5 per month
  • Supporter under £5 per month

Donating Other Amounts

You can, of course, donate whatever sum you wish to us, on a monthly basis, you don't have to stick to our suggested levels. Your Subscriber level will be determined by your donation amount. All donations are received with gratitude, whether large or small. Regular donations of all sizes help us become more financially stable and allow us to provide services to the community.

FAQ

How does the Subscriber program help Samye?

Your Subscriber donations can help in any number of ways and we appreciate any donation, large or small, one-off or ongoing. Every little helps to secure the future of Samye Foundation and our Mindfulness and Wellbeing Centre. Because subscription is a monthly donation, it is particularly beneficial to the long term future and stability of Samye Foundation.

  • Regular donations help smooth out our cashflow
  • With more Subscribers we can bring more teachers to the centre to give workshops and talks
  • We can make improvements to the buildings and garden
  • We can make badly needed upgrades to our equipment and software, allowing us to save money in the long term
  • We can make the centre more environmentally friendly e.g. by replacing older lightbulbs with greener versions
  • We can provide more courses
  • We can help our hard working volunteers and pay for their travelling expenses
  • We can offer training to our volunteers to help with their personal growth and development

Do I need to come in to set up my Student Subscription?

Yes, we need to see your NUS card or other formal proof that you are a student as of this academic year. We'll need to review this at the start of each academic year. We're in Canton so it's not a long walk from the city centre and there are lots of bus routes as well.

Are there courses for Students?

We are looking at setting up new 8 Week Courses, probably on Wednesday afternoons, specifically to cater for the availability of students. However, you can attend any of the courses so if one of our evening courses suits you better, you can attend that.

Subscribe to our mailing list and follow us on Facebook if you'd like to make sure you hear about new courses that are being started up.

Subscriber Benefits - How They Work

As a way of thanking our Subscribers for supporting the centre, we offer various benefits, depending on Subscriber Level.

The principle benefit of making a monthly subscription donation is that we offer free access to our courses for our Subscribers. We have divided the courses that we offer by levels and assigned each one to a level of Subscriber.

For instance, Introduction to Mindfulness Workshops are a Foundation course and can be attended by Subscribers of Supporter level and above free of charge. You can attend as many as you like throughout the year.

Courses and Events not Covered by your Subscription

There are some courses and events which are not covered by your being a Subscriber.

  • We have a number of external teachers at our centre each year as well as guest speakers and these are not covered as we have to pay fees and travelling expenses and other costs to run those events.
  • Residential retreats are not discounted as the venues, teacher costs and admin have to be paid for.
  • One to one sessions, and one off events are also not covered.

All covered events are listed in the Subscriber Benefits section. If an event or course is not listed there, it is not covered.

We reserve the right to add future courses and events to the Subscriber levels as well as amend the existing levels. We will notify Subscribers of any changes that impact the value of the benefits offered for a given tier.

How to use your Subscriber Benefits

If you would like to make use of your Subscriber benefits, please notify the Office or email us at admin@sfwales.org to book on the course and clearly state that you'd like to attend as a Subscriber. For drop in sessions, please bring and present your Subscriber Card.

Can I Use my Subscriber Benefits when Booking through the Website?

Not as of July 2018, no. However, we will, time permitting, explore this option. Clearly, if we can make this work it will save volunteer administration time and save the Subscribers time as well. Please be patient though, if we can implement this, we certainly will but it's a luxury we can't prioritise at this time.

Can I support Kagyu Samye Dzong Cardiff instead of Samye Foundation Wales?

Absolutely. Samye Foundation Wales and Kagyu Samye Dzong Cardiff share our centre. There are three buildings, two of which are available for us by the general public (the other contains offices).

You can be a Subscriber to the centre to support KSD Cardif or Samye Foundation Wales. Please contact admin@meditateinwales.net if you'd like to specifically join as a KSD Cardiff supporter. All donations through Charity Checkout go to Samye Foundation Wales and we CANNOT move donations across, so if you particularly wish to donate to KSD Cardiff, please contact us.

All Subscribers, whichever charity they are directly supporting, are entitled to the same benefits. A Friend of the centre who is donating to SFW is entitled to the same benefits as a Friend of the centre who is donating to KSD.

Why is this Subscription to the Centre not Membership of Samye Foundation Wales/KSD Cardiff?

We need to make a distinction between making monthly donations as a Subscriber to the centre in order to support the centre and the work we do here, and being a 'member' of the charity.

In some charities, members attend and vote at an annual AGM whereas becoming a Subscriber to the Centre does not confer voting rights or duties. Please ask if you have any questions.

I want to help but I don't need Subscriber benefits

If you just want to offer some financial support to support the centre but you aren't planning to use the benefits yourself, you can donate through the Guardian programme. This has the added benefit of allowing us to claim Gift Aid which increases the value of the donation (and for donors on a higher rate of tax, offers tax relief as well).

The Guardians programme is our monthly donation option for those who wish to help us continue our work teaching and promoting Mindfulness and providing other well-being services to the local community.

You can become a Guardian of our centre in Cardiff with a simple monthly donation through Charity Checkout

Guardian donations are eligible for Gift Aid which can be handled through Charity Checkout.

You can read more about the Guardians programme here.
